Imam Abu Abdullah al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on our followers. By Allah, our followers are the true believers. By Allah, they have shared our sorrow through prolonged grief and heartache."

On the day of Ashura, marks were found on the back of Imam Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon them). When they asked Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him) about this, he said: "This is from carrying sacks of food on his back to the homes of widows, orphans, and the poor."

Imam Abu Abdullah al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: "When the tragedy of Husayn (peace be upon him) occurred, the angels cried out to Allah in lamentation, saying: 'Is this done to Husayn, Your chosen one and the son of Your Prophet?' Allah then showed them the shadow of the Qa'im (peace be upon him) and said: 'Through him, I will take revenge for this.'"

Abu Hamza al-Thumali said: I asked Imam Zayn al-Abidin al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) about the two men, Abu Bakr and Umar. He said: "They were the first to wrong us, usurp our rights, and take our inheritance. They sat in a position that we were more deserving of than them. May Allah neither forgive nor have mercy on them. They are disbelievers, and anyone who follows them is also a disbeliever."

Al-Qasim ibn Muslim said: "I was with Imam Zayn al-Abidin al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) in Yanbu, my hand in his. I asked: 'What do you say about these two men? Do you disassociate from their enemies?' He became angry, withdrew his hand from mine, and said: 'Woe to you, O Qasim! They were the first to wrong us through our forefathers, usurped our rights, led people against us, and took a position that we were more deserving of than them.'"

What did Imam Zayn al-Abidin al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) say about Abu Bakr and Umar?

Imam Zayn al-Abidin al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) said: "There are three types of people whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Judgment, nor will He look at them, nor will He purify them, and they will have a painful punishment: one who denies an Imam appointed by Allah, one who claims to be an Imam without Allah's appointment, and one who believes that Abu Bakr and Umar have any share in Islam."

A servant of Imam Zayn al-Abidin al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) said: "I was with Imam Zayn al-Abidin al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) and I said to him: 'I have a right over you. Will you not tell me about the two men, Abu Bakr and Umar?' He replied: 'They are disbelievers, and anyone who loves them is also a disbeliever.'"

♦️ Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) said: "O son of Muawiya, and Hind, and Sakhr, the prophethood and leadership have always belonged to my ancestors and forefathers even before you were born. My grandfather, Ali ibn Abi Talib, held the standard of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) on the Day of Badr, Uhud, and the Confederates, while your father and grandfather held the standards of the disbelievers."

Why was the Imam called "al-Sajjad"?

♦️ Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said: "My father, Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Sajjad (peace be upon him), would prostrate whenever he remembered a blessing from Allah. He would prostrate whenever he recited an ayah from the Book of Allah that required prostration. He would prostrate whenever Allah protected him from an evil he feared or a plot against him. He would prostrate after completing each obligatory prayer. He would prostrate whenever he succeeded in reconciling between two people. The marks of prostration were evident on all parts of his body where he would prostrate, and thus he was named 'al-Sajjad' (the one who prostrates)."

Imam Hasan (peace be upon him) said to his brother Imam Husayn (peace be upon him) at the time of his martyrdom: "Everything will weep for you, even the wild beasts in the deserts and the fish in the seas."
